To pay KPLC tokens via M-Pesa paybill, follow these steps:

Step 1:

Go to your Safaricom SIM Toolkit and select the M-Pesa menu. From there, select Lipa na M-Pesa, then Pay Bill.

Step 2:

Enter the KPLC token Paybill number: 888 880 for prepaid and 888 888 for postpaid.

Enter your new Kenya Power account number, which will look something like 123456.

Step 4:

Enter the amount you wish to pay, which should be between Shs.100 and Shs.35,000.

Step 5:

Enter your M-Pesa PIN.

Step 6:

Double-check that all the details are correct, then hit OK to send and complete the transaction.

Step 7:

You will receive a transaction confirmation SMS from M-Pesa. You will then receive another SMS from KPLC with the amount paid, date of payment, total tokens received, and a unique code to enter into your prepaid meter.

Step 8:

Enter the unique code into your prepaid meter and press OK. Your prepaid meter will then update itself immediately.

Please note that if you are using an Equitel line, you can select Eazzy Pay from your Equitel menu and follow the prompts to pay your KPLC tokens.

• From the main menu, select the 'M-Pesa' option by entering the corresponding number and pressing send/OK.
• Next, choose 'Lipa na M-PESA' by entering the corresponding number.
• From the list of options, select 'Pay Bill' by entering the number next to it.
• You will be prompted to enter the business number. For electricity payments, the business number is usually that of the specific electricity provider, such as Kenya Power (enter 888880 for prepaid and 888888 for postpaid).
• After entering the correct business number, you will be asked to provide the account number. This is where you input your electricity meter number or your electricity account number, depending on your electricity provider's instructions.
• Enter the amount you wish to pay in Kenyan Shillings.
• You will then be asked to confirm the payment details. Carefully review the information and confirm the transaction if all the details are correct.
• Once the transaction is completed, you will receive a confirmation message with the transaction details.

To pay your electricity bill using Equitel, follow these steps:

• Select 'Eazzy Pay' from your Equitel menu.
• Choose 'Pay Bill' from the Eazzy Pay menu.
• Select the bank account number you wish to pay from.
• For the business number, select 'KPLC Bills (Post Paid)'.
• Enter your new Kenya Power meter number.
• Input the amount you wish to pay, between Shs.100 and Shs.500,000.
• Enter your Equitel PIN and press 'OK'.
• Review all the details and confirm the transaction by pressing '1' followed by 'OK'.
• You will receive a text confirmation of the transaction from Equity Bank. Your payment will be posted to your electricity account on the same day.

In addition to electricity bills, you can use Equitel mobile money to pay for other services such as your Nairobi Water Company bill, school fees, phone bills, and TV utility bills.

Paying via a bank account

If you have an account with a post bank, cooperative bank, or standard chartered bank, you can pay your electricity bills automatically through their teller machines. You can also write a cheque to KPLC (Kenya Power and Lighting Company) and deposit it at designated centres appointed by Kenya Power as cheque dropping points. All clients of Kenya Power can pay their bills in cash at any equity bank branch across the country, and the payment will be reflected in your electricity account on the same day.

To check your bill, log into your setup account and choose the 'my bill/token' option. You can also check your bill via SMS using any Kenyan Cellular network, which is charged at Ksh 5. To do this, open a new SMS message service and enter the first digits of your account number in the message field. You will then receive an automatic reply with your account balance details.

You can also check your bill via email. Log in to your email account and compose a new email. Enter the first part of your account number in the subject field. You will then receive an automatic reply with your account balance details and payment due date.
