Strategies To Conquer The Electric Gym In Brilliant Diamond

how to beat electric gym brilliant diamond

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players must take on eight gym leaders, the Elite Four, and the Pokémon Champion. The Sunyshore City Gym is the eighth and final gym in the game, where players will face off against Electric-type Pokémon. To beat the gym leader, Volkner, it is recommended to have a party of Level 40 or higher and to use Grass-type Pokémon or Ground-type attacks. Volkner's four Pokémon are Raichu, Octillery, Ambipom, and Luxray. Ground, Water, and Fighting Pokémon are also recommended for this battle. Players who succeed will obtain the Beacon Badge, the Hidden Move Waterfall, Stickers, and TM57 (Charge Beam).

Use Water and Grass attacks against Roark

To beat the first gym leader, Roark, in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, you should use Water and Grass attacks. Roark's Pokémon have a weak defence against Grass-type and Water-type Pokémon. If you have Piplup or Turtwig as your starter Pokémon, this battle will be a breeze. Piplup's Water Gun offence and the use of Charm to lower its opponent's attack should give players an easy path to obtaining the first gym badge. Turtwig can also make quick work of any opponent with its Grass attacks.

If you chose Chimchar as your starter Pokémon, you may have a harder time in this battle. Chimchar is a Fire-type Pokémon, which is weak against Rock-type Pokémon. However, if you can level Chimchar up to level 14 and evolve it into Monferno, it will learn Mach Punch, a Fighting-type move that will be deadly to Roark's team. You could also use a Kricketot, Kricketune, or Zubat to deal damage with their Grass and Bug-type moves.

Another option is to catch a Budew north of Jubilife, which can eventually be evolved into Roselia, a strong Grass-type Pokémon. You could also train a Bidoof to level 16, at which point it will evolve into the Normal and Water-type Bibarel, which can learn Water Gun. Additionally, Psyduck is a Water-type Pokémon that can be found in the Ravaged Path north of Jubilife City, and it will be an obvious counter to Roark's Rock-type Pokémon.

Gardenia's Grass-types are weak to Fire, Bug and Flying

Gardenia is the second gym leader in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, and her gym is located in Eterna City. She uses Grass-type Pokémon, so her gym will be easier for players who started with Chimchar as their starter Pokémon. By the time they reach Eterna Gym, Chimchar will have likely evolved into Monferno, which will make taking on Grass-types easy with their weakness to Fire.

However, players who chose Piplup or Turtwig will be able to catch plenty of Pokémon who are effective against Grass types by the time they challenge Gardenia. Ponyta is the only Fire-type Pokémon found in the wild before players reach Eterna City, but there are plenty of Pokémon with other types of moves that are strong against Grass-types. Starly, Staravia, Zubat, Kricketot, Kricketune, and Swablu can each learn multiple moves that will be super effective in battle. Additionally, Prinplup can learn Peck at level 15 and Metal Claw at level 16, which will both be effective, although players will have to be mindful of its weakness to grass-type moves while battling Gardenia.

Gardenia’s signature move, Grass Knot, will increase the amount of damage it does based on how heavy the opposing Pokémon is, so forming a party of light-weight Pokémon is a good strategy to minimize damage. It’s also a good idea to bring plenty of antidotes and paralyze heals into battle to heal poisoning and paralysis. While Roserade’s moves can pack a punch damage-wise, flying and bug types will be able to take the hits and manage to deal enough damage before being knocked out.

Gardenia's Grass-type Pokémon are weak to Fire, Bug, Flying, Poison, Steel, and Dragon-type Pokémon, so players have plenty of options for their Pokémon party even if they didn’t choose Chimchar as their starter.

Maylene's Fighting-types are weak to Fairy and Flying

Maylene is the leader of the Veilstone Gym, the third gym in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Her speciality is Fighting-type Pokémon, and she always brings a tough Lucario as her party member. Maylene's Fighting-type Pokémon are weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type Pokémon.

Players who have been training Normal/Flying types like Staravia should be mindful that her hits will pack a punch with the type weakness, but their Flying-type moves will easily take out her first two Pokémon. Meditite and Machoke are both weak to Flying and Fairy-type moves, so a Flying-type Pokémon like Staravia or Staraptor can easily sweep through the Veilstone Gym with no real problems.

Staraptor, with its Ability of Intimidate, can handily reduce the Attack of the physically powerful Fighting-types and can use its Speed to quickly eliminate opponents with devastating Flying-type offence. A Prinplup will also have a slight advantage in this gym since it can learn Peck at level 15.

Drifblim is another Pokémon with few weaknesses against Maylene's Pokémon. It resists Normal, Fighting, and Ground, and evolves into Drifblim at level 28, which is the average level of Maylene's Pokémon.

Cynthia's Garchomp is weak to Dragon attacks

Garchomp is a Dragon-type and Ground-type Pokemon, which means it is weak to Ice-type attacks. Dragon-type Pokemon are also weak to other Dragon-type attacks, so using Garchomp's own Dragon Rush or Draco Meteor attacks against her can be effective.

One strategy is to use a Snorlax with high HP and the Immunity ability, along with the Rough Skin hidden ability and Ice Beam. This combination of abilities and moves can effectively counter Garchomp. Another option is to use a high-defence Pokemon or one that can hover to avoid Garchomp's Earthquake attack.

Additionally, Empoleon with Ice Beam can be very effective, dealing 4x damage to Garchomp. It is also recommended to have your Pokemon at a higher level, ideally between Level 10 and Level 15, to increase your chances of success.

Cynthia's Garchomp is a formidable opponent, and by utilising these strategies and moves that take advantage of its weaknesses, you can increase your chances of defeating it.

Beat Volkner with Ground-type Pokémon

Volkner is the final gym leader you'll face in the Sinnoh Region in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. He is the Sunyshore City Gym Leader, and he specialises in Electric-type Pokémon.

To beat Volkner, it is recommended that your party be Level 40 or higher. You should also have a Ground-type Pokémon in your party, as Electric-type Pokémon are only weak to Ground-type attacks. However, Volkner has a few moves to counter Ground-type Pokémon, so be prepared for that. Raichu, Octillery, and Luxray all have moves that are strong against Ground-type Pokémon, so be sure to bring a Pokémon that can take them out quickly.

Grass-type Pokémon are also a good choice for this battle, as they are resistant to Electric and Water-type attacks. However, Volkner's Octillery and Luxray have moves that are strong against Grass-type Pokémon, so be mindful of that. It's best to leave Water and Flying-type Pokémon on the bench for this fight, as Electric-type moves are strong against them.

Volkner will use three Pokémon in Single Battles, four in Double and Rotation Battles, and all six in Triple Battles. He also has a few full restores that he'll use if his Pokémon fall below critical health. Additionally, his Luxray has the Intimidate ability, which will lower its target's attack when it enters the battle.
